Mizu, the first Izakaya in Rouen

Mizu recently opened its doors in Rouen several weeks ago now. It is already the new essential place to eat gourmet flavors of Asian cuisine.

But what does Izakaya mean?

In Japanese, izakaya is the equivalent from the bistro or wine bar, but in France, it's more of a mix between an English pub and a tapas restaurant. Behind this creation 3 friends, Brian Barboyon, Hugo Picard and Robin Tanquerel who worked for a long time on the project upstream before finally being able to launch at the start of 2023.

Starters to share

At Mizu, they also encourage exchange and sharing, the idea is to be able to taste with friends and share all the flavors! As a starter there are many choices depending on tastes and desires, karaage (pieces of marinated chicken thighs), tonkatsu (the traditional Japanese fried pork), gyozas or even hakusai (white cabbage sautéed with smoked bacon accompanied by with a kimchi sauce), many flavors to discover.

Ramen, the chef’s specialty

Hugo Picard, also known as Gin Kmitsune, is passionate about Japanese cuisine and creation. He spent months as a home chef before finally opening his restaurant with his friends – a dream come true. Hugo's specialty is ramen, a free dish in which we find a base: broth, noodles, a protein, a garnish and marinated eggs. Once you have this base you can enrich your ramen and make it whatever you want.

Traditional sake to accompany the dishes

Mizu also offers a wide selection of drinks, including sake – the traditional Japanese alcoholic drink made from rice. Brian and Hugo believe that, like wine, sake should be able to complement food. The drinks menu is completed by several cocktails with Asian flavors, alcoholic or not.

A little room for dessert

And finally to end the meal in style you can taste the little sweet touch with 3 choices for the moment, the tasty pearls of Japan, the surprising panna cotta with black sesame or our little favorite from Rouen Bouge the famous yuzu cheesecake (ps : it's a killer)
