The Rouen Dragons crowned champions of France for the 18th time: they win the Magnus League

Advertising

This Monday, April 15, 2024, the Rouen Dragons won in a close match at Mériadeck, against the Bordeaux Boxers. This match marks their coronation as champions of France and closes the Magnus League. But what is the Magnus League? We'll explain it to you.

Focus on the Magnus league

The championship, born in 1907, today hosts a single pool made up of the 12 best clubs in France. This year, we were therefore able to have a championship in which: Amiens competed; Angers; Anglet; Bordeaux; Briançon; Cergy-Pontoise; Chamonix; Gap; Grenoble; Marseilles; Nice and our Rouen Dragons.

The elite teams meet twice (first leg and second leg), and each match must end with a winner, so that the teams accumulate points and the ranking is established. This ranking determines the teams which will advance to the final phase (playoffs) to access the title (the first 2 teams), while the teams ranked from ninth to twelfth place participate in the retention pool.

A coronation at the end of the championship

And this is how Rouen was able to reach the title of champion of France last night, after having accumulated enough points to reach the final against Bordeaux and score the last goal during extra time: thanks to the player Christophe Boivin for this feat!

There you go, now you know a little more about the championship that makes our Dragons shine!
